  • Shark Rescues Man Lost at Sea: DNews Nugget

Shark ‘Rescues’ Man Lost at Sea:

A 41-year-old policeman from the Pacific Island of Maiana found himself lost at sea with his brother-in-law, in what was supposed to be a two-hour boat ride. The two men — 41-year-old Toakai Teitoi and 52-year-old Lelu Falaile — started on May 27 with intentions of boating from Kiribati to Maiana. They stopped to fish along the way, slept overnight and awoke in the morning to find they had drifted out of sight of Maiana and were out of fuel. They had food, but no water. Without water or rescue, Falaile’s health failed and he died on July 4.

Teitoi buried his brother at sea and the very next day, a rainstorm that lasted several days allowed Teitoi to fill two 5-gallon containers with water. But weeks continued without incident or resuce. And then on Sept. 11, Teitoi was curled up in the shade under a covered area in the bow of the boat, when he heard a scratching sound on the hull. A shark was bumping against the boat. When the shark had Teitoi’s attention, it swam off.

“He was guiding me to a fishing boat. I looked up and there was the stern of a ship and I could see crew with binoculars looking at me,” Teitoi said.

The boat, the Marshalls 203, rescued Teitoi after 106 days at seahttp://

  • Most Popular Honeymoon Spots

Your vows were exchanged, the bouquet was tossed, the wedding cake was shoved into your mouth and the eco-friendly bubbles were blown in place of the traditional rice throwing. Weddings are a whirlwind experience, and just making it through in one piece is an accomplishment. Planning the big event typically starts a year out, but many brides have ideas in mind before “the question” is even popped. After dealing with testy wedding planners, unreliable caterers, family members in town and trying to fit into that dress or tuxedo, a honeymoon is a welcome getaway from what’s bound to be one of the most stressful events in your life.

There’s really no such thing as a typical honeymoon these days. Honeymooners come in all stripes, and just because it’s your first trip as a married couple doesn’t mean you have to be secluded on a tropical beach with a heart-shaped bed in your suite and champagne bubble baths every night. The modern traveler craves adventure and excitement as well, so it’s no surprise that three out of five honeymooners pay for extras like helicopter rides, scuba diving and other thrilling excursions, according to the popular wedding Web site, The Knot. Honeymoons aren’t cheap either. The Knot says that in 2010, after plunking down an average of $27,000 for the big day, new couples spent an average of $4,466 for a trip that was about eight days long. Each year wedding planning resources like Brides magazine and The Knot poll travel agents and newlyweds to compile their lists of the most popular honeymoon destinations.

    California Wine Country

If you love the idea of taking in a beautiful country landscape while drinking an amazing glass of wine, crossing the pond isn’t your only option. Napa and Sonoma Valleys in California are great honeymoon destinations for wine-loving couples. They’re closer to home than jet-setting to France or Italy, equally romantic but easier on the budget.

    4: France

Romance, culture, history — and let’s not forget about great food and wine — can be had when you honeymoon in France. The country offers a little bit of everything. You can spend your first few days as a married couple lounging on the beaches of Normandy or strolling down the Avenue des Champs-

“ID Proof – Life’s difficult in the US as well”

President Obama walks into the Bank of America to cash a check.
As he approaches the cashier he says “Good morning Ma’am, could you please cash this check for me”?
Cashier:  “It would be my pleasure sir. Could you please show me your ID”?
Obama:  “To tell you truth, I did not bring my ID with me as I didn’t think there was any need to; I am President Barrack Obama, the President of the United States of America!!!!”
Cashier: “Yes sir, I know who you are, but with all the current regulations and monitoring of Banks because of impostors and forgers etc. I must insist on seeing your ID.”
Obama: “Just ask anyone here at the Bank who I am, and they will tell you. Everybody knows who I am.”
Cashier: “I am sorry Mr. President but these are the bank rules and I must follow them.”
Obama: “I am urging you, please, to cash this check”
Cashier: “Look Mr. President this is what we can do: One day Tiger Woods came into the bank without his ID. To prove he was indeed Tiger Woods he pulled out his putting iron and made a beautiful shot across the bank into a cup. With that shot we knew him to be Tiger Woods and we cashed his check. Another time, Andre Agassi came in without ID. He pulled out his tennis racquet and made a fabulous shot whereby the tennis ball landed in my cup. With that shot we cashed his check. So, Mr. President, what can you do to prove that it is you, and only you, the President of the United States?”
Obama stood there thinking, and thinking and finally says: “Honestly, my mind is a total blank, there is nothing that comes to my mind. I can’t think of a single thing!”
Cashier: “That is good enough for a proof. Will that be large or small bills, Mr. President?”
