- Celebrated by the Sikhs, the birthday of their tenth and last guru, this day witnesses’ large processions and special prayer gatherings at all Gurudwaras.
Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth Nanak (Sikh Guru), was born at Patna Sahib on December 22, 1666, (Poh Sudi Saptmi). His birthday generally falls in December or January or sometimes twice within a year as it is calculated according to Hindu Bikrami Calendar, which is based on the lunar calendar. According to the Nanakshahi Calendar, the birthday of Guru Gobind Singh Sahib falls annually on January 5.
An overview of Guru Gobind Singh’s life
Guru Gobind Singh (1666-1708 C.E.) lived during an extremely dangerous time. His father, Guru Tegh Bahadur, had sacrificed his life to protect the freedom of worship by Hindus, who were being threatened with conversion or death by zealous Muslim rulers. Abduction of women and pillage of goods were rampant, but the people were too timid and terrorized to resist. In the midst of this political situation, Guru Gobind Singh gained great stature as both Saint and soldier a leader of firm spiritual principles and intense devotion to God, and at the same time, fearless dedication to protecting all people from oppression and injustice through the practice of Kshatradharma.
In 1699, He dramatically initiated five men from the lower castes as His Five Beloveds, blessing them with great courage as well as nearness to God. They became models for the Khalsa, the Order of the Pure, which Guru Gobind Singh created to stand on the front line against injustice. The Khalsa were held to a very strict moral and spiritual discipline and under Guru Gobind Singh’s courageous inspiration, helped to turn the tide against Mughal oppression in India.
In addition to his spiritual and military leadership, Guru Gobind Singh was a gifted intellectual and had many poets in his court. He was inspired to write many powerful spiritual compositions that infused a martial spirit in the people.
This included the Jaap Sahib, but He did not include them in the Sikh scripture, the Guru Granth Sahib. His writings have instead been collected in a separate volume, called the Dasam Granth. Upon His passing away, He instructed his Sikhs to regard the Guru Granth Sahib as their teacher. ‘Granth’ literally means ‘volume’ (especially, a Holy volume). ‘Sahib’ is a term of reverence used for anything sacred. The Guru Granth Sahib is the perpetual guru of the Sikhs today.(source: http://www.festivalsofindia.in/gurugobind/)Celebrated by the Sikhs, the birthday of their tenth and last guru, this day witnesses’ large processions and special prayer gatherings at all Gurudwaras. Abhi Lasha shares a great relationship with her mother-in-law. Everyday after returning from office she shares what happened in the office with her mother-in-law. Her mother-in-law too tells her what she did throughout the day. Her mother-in-law misses her badly when Abhilasha goes to visit her mother’s place. Abhilasha believes that her mom-in-law is her best friend. (Hard to digest, isn’t it?)
You are already raising your eyebrow with surprise, are you not? We tend to follow the image of the monster mother-in-law as it is depicted in the saas-bahu serials and movies. But are we aware of some truths about the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law relationship that are way too different from what we believe and experience.
Mother-in-law can be a good friend
If the words of Aristotle are to be believed that friend is a single soul dwelling in two bodies then befriending your mother-in-law can be the key to share a great relationship with her. Sharing ups and downs of your life with your mother-in-law would be a great start to boost the bonding.
To be a good daughter-in-law you should seek your mother-in-law’s advice when you face hurdles, you should listen to her distresses, you should be able to be part of her happiness and sorrows and finally you should believe that a mother-in-law can be the best pal of her daughter-in-law.
Give respect, receive respect
Respect given is respect earned. Respect should be the base of any relationship no matter if it is a relation of a husband and wife, a mother and child or a mother-in-law and daughter-in-law. To be a fantastic daughter-in-law giving respect is the important factor to enhance the relationship.
In Indian culture touching feet of the elders is considered highly respective. Apart from this, respect is all about trusting your mother-in-law, valuing her decisions and not doubting her instincts. Clashes are ought to happen in every relationship but overcoming them can be quite an achievement. Look at every doubt, issue or disagreement as a challenge and how you can work around that.
Do not be prejudiced. If you are going to visit your mother-in-law for the first time, remember that first impression is the last impression. The simple formula to nurture any relationship is putting forward your real self. ‘Be yourself’ and everything will be fine.
It is true that one should respect in-laws but one should also set some limits to their interference in your life. You should not tolerate domestic violence, harassment or physical or emotional abuse from any of your in-laws. If you are being the victim of such abuse then as a responsible citizen it is your duty to report it to the concerned person or women’s cell.
The Mother-in-law and daughter-in-law relationship is always perceived negatively. But if in-law relationships stumble, it is not necessary that it will be always a mother-in-law’s fault. Have you ever told you mother-in-law that you really adore her? Have you ever complimented her for making tasty food?
Let your mother-in-law know that her presence in your life makes the ride worthwhile. Have you ever though about buying a gift for her on mother’s day? Let your mother-in-law know that you care and feel concerned about her.
Secrets to be a good daughter-in-law
Understating daughter-in-law dos and don’ts may help you to handle in-law relationships. Where there are relationships there will be frictions. Sometimes you may not agree with another person’s point of view, in such a situation you should learn to be calm.
- Be optimistic. Do not form any preconceptions regarding your relationship with your mother-in-law.
- Be respectful towards your mother-in-law.
- Seek her advice when it is appropriate.
- Agreeing to her whims every time may not be correct or even tough for you. Nevertheless you should respect her opinion and say what you feel.
- Go out for a lunch, just the two of you or invite her for a lunch and prepare what she likes.
- Get to know the positive aspects in her
- Make her birthdays and anniversary special for her
- Buy your mother-in-law gifts on special occasions
When you marry you are going to be someone’s wife, someone’s daughter-in-law and someone’s sister-in-law. If you are not married you have the responsibility to make your fiance’s mother believe in you. What say? At one moment you will be terrified of your mother-in-law and at next moment you might be giggling hearing the mischievous stories of your spouse’s childhood from her. Give it a try, it is worth it!

Information and Technology has developed rapidly within last decade and now in 21st century the means of communication has reached a level where there is no barrier to it. Now people are free to use individual network lining and can avoid any bad audio quality or fading problems. There are trunking systems that allow better radio frequencies without any line breakage or fading. These systems are comparatively cheaper to older individual lining system.
The digital radio broadcasting technologies now has developed better systems and networks for 2 way radio giving the DMR radio better options to connect and work. These are 2nd generation radio systems and as they are two way, you can both transmit and receive message. These radio systems are most useful for security agencies for individual and mass protection. Police, fireman, military and such security agencies use these types of radio mobile systems.
These systems can be of different types, depending upon their use they can be mobile, stationary base, and walkie-talkies. To work these types of radio the networking system needs different levels of support and backup. Such supports should be provided without any interruption and for this a direct satellite network connection is also maintained specially in the case of military and high level security systems. In mountain areas the network gets blocked by different blocks and frequency mix and to solve this problem repeaters are used. A repeater takes the message and retransmits it to higher level so that the message goes without any interruption to long distance.
Digital Mobile Radio (DMR) is an upgraded open digital radio system for Professional Mobile Radio (PMR) and to support them the ETSI (European Telecommunications Standard Institute) made Terrestrial Trunked Radio (TETRA) system. It is a two way receiver and is best for mass security purpose, because with this system one can transfer and receive message from point to point and from point to multipoint and vice-versa. These radios can also be operated hands-free and so can be referred as covert radio.
A digital licence free radio is latest addition to two way radio system that gives you charge-free communication facility. This system is used for private use and they work with the help of repeaters and internet. The only drawback of this radio system is that they work only within few kilometres range that too if the area is clear and viable for PMR and DMR frequencies.Information and Technology has developed rapidly within last decade and now in 21st century the means of communication has reached a level where there is no barrier to it.
